Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, known for his prolific output and energetic performances, has revealed a striking aspect of his professional life: he has never truly taken a vacation.
Speaking during a recent interview with the BBC, the artist offered a glimpse into his relentless work ethic, where traditional breaks seem to be an unfamiliar concept.
The conversation delved into the idea of rest, with the interviewer observing Burna Boy’s continuous professional engagement, remarking, “Now you’ve just kept going. You’ve kept going.”
When pressed on what a “resting Burna” might resemble, the artist candidly admitted, “Man, I don’t know. You know, I’ve never been on a vacation.”

Burna elaborated on his rare instances of being near a beach, stating that it occurs only in Lagos or only when he is back in his hometown.
He also recalled a single trip to Jamaica. However, he quickly clarified that these instances do not count as genuine vacations in his view.
“That’s home to you to be fair, isn’t it? As well, that’s also home as well. So, it’s like I can’t count,” he explained.
Despite previously insisting on his plans of not having a family anytime soon, he recently appeared to change this stance during his 34th birthday.
The Afrobeats sensation, who celebrated his 34th birthday on July 2, 2025, in Lagos, revealed that he is beginning to feel the influence of his age in this decision.

Burna shared that a recent conversation with billionaire oil magnate Joseph Ezeokafor Jr. (Jowizaza) prompted this reflection.
In a candid statement in Pidgin, he remarked, “Omo, I don dey old oh, I for begin born pikins,” which loosely translates to, “I’m getting older — I should probably start having children.”
This marks a notable change in stance for the artist. Previously, as recently as May 2024, Burna had publicly stated that he was not ready for fatherhood, emphasizing his desire to be fully settled, possibly married, and able to provide his children with the attention and stability he believes they deserve before embarking on parenthood.
His current remarks at his birthday celebration have sparked considerable excitement among his global fanbase and industry observers, hinting at a new phase in the “African Giant’s” life that extends beyond his monumental music career to focus on his personal legacy.
